Development Coordinator

Position Description
We’re looking for a motivated individual to assist and support our fundraising efforts. The Development Coordinator is responsible for coordinating major gift fundraising among individuals and family foundations and stewardship events. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Development, the ideal candidate is a team player with strong organizational skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement annual major gifts operating plan and track progress of major gifts efforts against goals.
  • Manage major donor/prospect tracking system.
  • Cultivate and steward Giving Society donors and prospects (draft solicitations, benefits fulfillment and donor service).
  • Assist senior staff and board with major gifts donor and prospect cultivation and stewardship.
  • Conduct and compile prospect research on major donors and prospects.
  • Provide solicitor support, including creation of materials, meeting planning and follow-up.
  • Implement major donor/prospect communications strategy.
  • Establish and maintain a donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that new major donors are developed and have opportunities to increase their support level.
  • Serve as an ambassador for CNT, representing CNT at donor/prospect events.
  • Prepare and send out agendas and reports for Development Committee meetings.
  • Coordinate, manage, and execute major donor/prospect cultivation events, including house parties and lectures.
  • Manage event volunteers.
  • Devise strategy for event, including pre-event meetings and debriefings.
  • Act as point of contact for CNT events, including public and donor events.
  • Implement post-event tasks; including sending follow-up letters, making phone calls, and debriefing with staff.
  • Provide support for direct mail campaign efforts.
  • Assist with grants as needed.
  • Attend all organizational functions where donors are present.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. degree preferably in fund development, communications, marketing, or related field is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant fundraising, marketing/public relations, or other experience working with non-profit organizations. Relevant donor cultivation and stewardship experience, preferred.
  • Solid organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Access and Power Point. Knowledge of desktop publishing software a plus.
  • Familiarity with fund raising databases, with a preference for Exceed, is required.
  • Superior writing, skills and attention to detail and accuracy. Strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully under tight deadlines, details, and shifting priorities.
  • Dependability in meeting regular working hours. Ability to work a morning, evening or week-end on occasion for donor activities.
  • A desire to work collaboratively. Willingness and ability to be persistent, to work under deadlines and maintain a cooperative spirit in a pressured work environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in community development, urban planning, housing, energy or environmental studies and marketing a plus.
  • Integrity and a sense of humor.

Transportation & Community Development Director

Position Description

The Center for Neighborhood Technology seeks an experienced professional as the leader of its Transportation and Community Development Program (TCD). The program’s mission is to increase the location efficiency of urban regions by supporting and developing vibrant sustainable communities around existing transportation assets, and promoting diverse mobility options.

To meet this challenge CNT has developed tools and metrics which make transparent the benefits of transit, transit-oriented development, and cargo oriented industrial revitalization; and assists cities and regions in identifying and pursuing transportation-centered development strategies that foster resource efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce household cost of living.

CNT seeks a creative and effective leader with the vision, skills and entrepreneurial approach to help redirect public and private investment flows in the United States toward smart, livable communities. This person will work closely with CNT’s other programs and affiliate organizations. The Director reports to CNT’s CEO.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership to our Transportation and Community Development (TCD) program
  • Leads and manages the TCD program and staff
  • Develops TCD project goals, objectives, strategies, or initiatives in collaboration with other CNT staff
  • Represents CNT in transportation and community development policy and economic development regional and national venues and coalitions
  • Provides transportation and community development contract services to municipalities and planning agencies
  • Works with our Research and Development division, develops and oversees a research program designed to further TCD objectives
  • Secures foundation and contract revenue sufficient to grow the program
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships internally and externally with key stakeholders
  • Develops reports and presentations to communicate TCD strategy, and the value of location efficiency and transportation infrastructure to a broad group of stakeholders including but not limited to: community and civic groups, transportation and economic development professionals, media, government, foundations and nonprofits
  • Participates in the CNT staff leadership group

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in transportation planning, transportation economics, transportation financing, market research and/or microeconomics
  • Strong data analysis and data management skills
  • Strong program development, project management, policy development and fundraising experience
  • Understanding of housing finance and/or urban development issues and policies
  • Experience in helping design value capture systems through mechanisms such as tax-increment financing, special service areas, municipal bonds, or business improvement districts.
  • Experience in or knowledge of freight planning, industrial development, transit-oriented development, brownfields and workforce development helpful
  • Ability to work with nationally prominent teams, organizations and decision makers
  • Working knowledge of transportation analysis such as travel demand management or transit planning; and knowledge of statutory and regulatory frameworks relevant to transportation
  • Demonstrated experience in producing opinion-shaping publications for popular and technical audiences
  • Knowledge of, interest in, and use of information technology and social media
  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop effective teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Masters degree in Urban Planning, Economics, engineering or related field
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor

Transportation & Community Development Specialist

Program Overview

The Transportation and Community Development program seeks to achieve: vibrant, compact, and diverse communities that minimize the need for private cars; public transportation that is efficient, affordable, and widely available; and economic development that takes full advantage of passenger and freight rail assets. Although the H+T Affordability Index is our best known tool, staff has also developed tools for identifying optimal levels of development around transit stations and freight rail facilities. TCD staff apply these tools as part of consulting engagements across the country.

Position Description

We’re looking for a motivated individual to assist and support our efforts to position CNT, both nationally and locally, as a leader in the field of sustainable development. The Transportation and Community Development (TCD) Specialist will work closely with our TCD Director to help achieve the organization’s objectives.

The TCD Specialist will be a key member of the Transportation and Community Development program and will contribute to projects related to COD and TOD, regional and community market analyses, transportation systems, the H+T® Affordability Index, and regional reports, policy proposals, as well as other projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceive of and carry out planning analyses and studies as requested
  • Promote the use of CNT’s H+T® Affordability Index and the TOD/COD Optimizer tools to improve communities’ understanding of them and their implications for sustainable development and affordability
  • Prepare regional and community level market demand analyses for COD TOD
  • Develop and recommend planning mechanisms to encourage affordable, equitable and sustainable mixed use development, including but not limited to public ordinances, zoning codes and recommendations, financing instruments and other programs
  • Build strong relationships with municipal, regional, state and federal agencies and stakeholders to implement policies, standards, and strategies supportive of sustainable and affordable development
  • Research and advocate for best practices for TOD, COD, and sustainable development planning across the nation
  • Engage with local and federal government, transit agencies, regional planning agencies and other stakeholders to propose policies and move them towards implementation
  • Supervise interns as they support TCD’s portfolio of projects
  • Advocate for mass transportation, transit- and cargo-linked developments and other community planning strategies that promote combined housing and transportation affordability at working groups, regional meetings, and events
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Master’s Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum three years’ experience in community development, transportation, affordable housing, urban planning, public policy and/or a related field
  • Experience and familiarity with a combination of numerous planning techniques and tools including but not limited to public participation, design charrettes, zoning ordinances, brownfields assessment and clean-up, and value capture financing
  • Knowledge of the development process, especially as it applies to mixed-use development
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal initiatives to expand public transportation and encourage transit-oriented development (TOD)
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and communicate findings to a variety of constituencies
  • Capacity to produce market analyses
  • Experience with ArcGIS preferred
  • Energetic, analytical and creative with excellent interpersonal and project management skills
  • Experience managing and contributing to projects individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

Terms of Service

Start Date – ASAP. Internships at CNT are unpaid. The usual time commitment is approximately 20 – 40 hours per week for ten weeks. CNT will assist the intern in acquiring course credit if possible.
